The goal of this page is to let families know what their child will be studying in the upcoming weeks in 1st grade. Check back frequently for updates!
August 31st- Welcome to a new year in first grade! We have had a fantastic first few days. I will make every effort to update this page as frequently as possible.
Christ Light- This school year will focus on the Old Testament. We will be studying Creation, The fall into sin, Cain and Abel, The Flood, The Tower of Babel, and stories about Abraham in the upcoming weeks. When the Christ Light workbook comes home, please read the story with your child, sign the parent message, and return it in the clear folder the following day.
Math- We are reviewing counting, writing, and identifying numbers to 12 in this first chapter. We will practice forming numbers correctly. Students have also learned to read and make a simple graph.
Reading- Our new reading curriculum, Superkids, is proving to be enjoyable and exciting for the first graders! Every day we work on reading, handwriting, spelling, phonics, and writing skills. We are currently reviewing skills learned in kindergarten (namely identifying/matching letters and sounds) before we start Unit 1. Ask your child to tell you about what they learn in Superkids reading each day!
Social Studies- We are currently discussing and learning all about families. The first graders had an opportunity to bring in a family picture (if your child did not and you still would like to send one, please do so!) and draw/label pictures of their families.
