Church Update 3/19/20

Dear Brothers and Sisters of our Saint Lucas family,

In these past few days, many gifted souls have been doing wonderful, faithful work in assembling an initial plan for all of us to serve our Lord together in these coming days.  I cannot tell you what an absolute joy it has been to see so many throwing themselves into assembling this plan, and doing it with a smile. Last evening our church council held a special meeting to establish and approve it.  Our initial plan for our work together at Saint Lucas includes the following:

Digital Service Plan-

Beginning on Sunday, March 22, Saint Lucas will be live streaming worship services at 9:30 a.m. Our purpose is that our congregational family can gather together in worship at the same time even if we cannot be in the same place. Live stream worship will be conducted in the sanctuary and include a full length service. A digital bulletin will be provided containing all materials necessary to participate in worship. A recorded version of the live stream will be available shortly after the conclusion of the service. An email will go out each Friday containing a link to the live stream and the digital bulletin. Whenever possible, worship bulletins will be mailed to those who do not have access to the online worship resources.

Note: Due to the current mandate of fewer than ten people gathering, the church building will not be open to attendees during the live stream.

Digital Midweek Lenten Worship Plan-

Each week during Lent, a devotional video will be shared with the congregation on Wednesdays. This will serve as the replacement for the traditional Wednesday Lenten services.

Communion will be offered to individuals / families on Sunday mornings from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Pastor will serve communion to one individual or family at a time. To abide by the current mandate limiting the number of people gathering in a building, the current procedures will be followed:

  • Wait outside the alley door to church until you are invited in (one individual or family at a time)
  • Deposit your offering in the basket if giving in that way
  • Receive communion from pastor
  • Immediately exit the church out the alley door
  • To reduce the amount of people waiting, communion times will be offered based on the first letter of your last name:
    • A-F - 11:00-11:30 a.m.
    • G-L - 11:30-12:00 p.m.
    • M-R - 12:00-12:30 p.m.
    • S-Z - 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Since we won't be able to get together for worship in-person for a time, we'd like to share ways to continue your consistent giving. First, you can sign up for our online offering program. Click HEREto go to the online giving page. Second, you can mail in your weekly offering using your offering envelope. Third, you can drop off your offering at church during the communion service times each week. Call the church office (414-483-9122) with questions or to request any kind assistance you need in giving your offering.

Finally, if the options above do not work for giving your offering, you can set aside your weekly offering and give the combined offering when you resume attendance at in-person worship.

There are other details, of course, and other plans in the works, but these are the main elements we wanted to share out right away.  In the meantime, Brothers and Sisters, let’s keep three thoughts in mind - 1. Souls need you. Seize the opportunity to pick up the phone, check on your neighbor, share an idea with the church office, give someone a word of encouragement; 2. Be in the Word. Read the daily Psalm with the rest of your congregational family; expand the time you spend meditating on your Savior’s promises; and 3. As our Lord says throughout Scripture, “Fear not.”

As you well know, our Savior Himself says it so well. My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)

Privileged to serve with you,

Pastor Peter Unnasch

2 Year Reading Plan of the Bible (NIV 1984)

The Today's Light Bible helps individuals and groups read and study the entire NIV Bible in just two years, breaking the readings down into manageable daily portions that can be completed in just 15 minutes or less. Brief devotions based on the text help readers understand and apply that day's Scripture selection to their lives.
